Serological Detection of Echinococcal Infection in Camels by the Indirect Haemagglutination (IHA) and Latex Agglutination (LA) Tests.

Based on the gross detection of echinococcal cysts in 288 slaughtered camels, the prevalence of infection was 32.6%. Serologically by the indirect haemagglutination (IHA) test, 73.9% of 280 camels were echinococcosis positive. The IHA test showed a high degree of sensitivity detecting echinococcal antibodies in 88.3% of the camels having echinococcal cysts. The latex agglutination (LA) test was much less sensitive than the IHA test, reacting with only 16.0% of the infected camels' sera. (Author)
