Evaluation of Thiabendazole Treatment for Hookworm and Ascaris Infections.

Sixty-two patients with hookworm and ascaris were treated with thiabendazole 25 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 2 days. A total of 42 patients had Ancylostoma duodenale, 12 had Ascaris lumbricoides and 8 had a mixed infection of both. The drug was effective in curing 27 patients (54%) with hookworm and 14 patients (70%) with ascaris. The side effects which were mainly headache, colic, musculoskeletal pains and giddiness were noted in 22% of cases. (Author)
