Along tripod legs of standard coaxial cable to be anchored 19,000 feet deep were 30 hydrophones, 12 temperature sensors, several engineering sensors, and 3400 10- and 16-inch glass buoyancy elements. Electronic packages with the sensors were to multiplex signals along the cable, avoiding the weight and handling problems of separate conductors. At the apex a subsurface buoy to stay within diver depth contained signal-conditioning and control electronics and three radioactive thermoelectric generators. A surface buoy on a rubber pendant was to transmit VHF and HF telemetry to a ship and to shore.
