'In vitro'Effect of Adenine on Stored Canine and Human Blood.

Human and dog red cells stored for six weeks in high concentrations of adenine equivalent to 25or 50mg/kg body weight were found to show decreased pH, P50,and diphosphoglycerate (DPG) levels comparable to other studies. A decrease in adenosine triphosphates (ATP) with storage was observed;however,there was a higher level with greater adenine doses indicating support of the ATP level by the adenine. No signs of toxic effects from the high adenine doses were observed. (Author)
