Fragment Weight Distributions from Naturally Fragmenting Cylinders Loaded with Various Explosives,

A fragment weight distribution formula is constructed by using available data. The formula involves one independent parameter,conserves mass,and uses the Mott distribution over a central portion of the weight range. Values of the parameter M,the average weight of fragments weighing more than one grain,are assigned to 24explosive compositions,in one particular configuration. Typical values of M are 12for Composition B, 17for Tritonal, 17.5for cast TNT,and 45for Ammonium Nitrate -TNT (80/20). (Author)
