Crossed Molecular Beam Studies of Transition Metal-Oxygen Reactions.

摘要

A versatile crossed molecular beam scattering apparatus has been designed and constructed to study the gas-phase kinetics of transition metal-oxygen species. The apparatus consists of a compact and adaptable scattering chamber which contains the facilities to produce and monitor both a high temperature metal vapor beam and a permanent gas beam in a high vacuum environment. It is also equipped with a phase-sensitive,mass spectrometric detection system. Preliminary,low-resolution reactive scattering experiments were carried out. The principal results of these exploratory experiments are the following: (1) There is strong forward peaking in the laboratory coordinate system for the (Ba/N2O) system,with about 99% of the reaction exothermicity going into product internal excitation;and (2) there is reactive scattering in the forward direction in the laboratory system for the (Ce/N2O) system.
