Hydrofluorocarbon integral fuel tank sealants have been prepared which exhibit significantly improved low temperature and stress corrosion properties. This report discusses compounding effects, evaluation of adhesion enhancement techniques and a basic investigation of the stress corrosion susceptibility of titanium substrates in contact with the sealants and compounding ingredients contained in them. Data is presented and discussed which demonstrates both the advantages and limitations of these fuel tank sealing materials. Resin primers looked very promising and when used with the AFML hydrofluorocarbon sealants described here, produce a bond to titanium substrates which is completely satisfactory in that it equals or exceeds the cohesive strength of the sealant.
