Accident and Assault Deaths in the United States Navy: Demography and Preliminary Interpretations.

Violent death is a significant problem for any large organization, including the Armed Forces. Death rates for accidents and assaults were 111 and 4.3 per 100,000 men per year, respectively; increased rates of accidental death were found for psychiatric patients, especially those with personality disorder, neurotic and situational maladjustment diagnoses. Possible underlying relationships among different forms of violent death were suggested. (Author)
