Polymer-Based Sensitizers for Photooxidations. II.

The preparation and use of several polymer-bound sensitizers for singlet oxygen generation are described. Photolysis of oxygen-saturated solutions of singlet oxygen acceptors in the presence of the insoluble sensitizer beads provides a convenient method of photooxidation. The quantum yield for the formation of singlet oxygen with polymer-bound Rose Bengal is 0.43. Several synthetic and mechanistic applications of these heterogeneous sensitizers are described. (Author)
