Interactions among the Various Phenomena Involved in the Design of Dynamic and Rotary Machinery and Their Effects on Reliability.

Endurance strength testing under reversed bending of AISI 4340, 4130, 1038and 1018steel 0.040in. diameter wires was completed and distribution S-N diagrams were prepared. Endurance strength testing under reversed bending of AISI 4130steel rods of 0.0937in. and 0.2700in. diameters and a notch sensitivity analysis were accomplished. Axial fatigue endurance testing was completed on AISI 1018and 1038steel rods to generate distributional Goodman strength diagrams. The computer program to determine the equation of the leat-squares best-fit curve of the Goodman diagram was completed. The experimental results of the entire program have been simmarized in the report. (Author)
