U. S. Rubber Company: PLASTISOL Swimmer's Gloves.

A new type U.S. Rubber Company, 'chemically blown PLASTISOL'rubber glove for use by divers and swimmers is evaluated. The primary consideration in the design of the glove was dexterity and improved sense of touch or 'feelability,'specifically for use by underwater personnel working on instruments and delicate mechanisms. Warmth was a second major consideration. Initial assumptions for the glove indicated willingness to sacrifice ruggedness and wearability to gain 'feelability.'The gloves were given extensive subjective evaluation on simulated tasks. Their 'feelability'and warmth are superior to any glove yet tested. The subjective comments were consistently enthusiastic. The material of the gloves is very soft and prone to tearing or snagging and,hence,outer protective gloves or mittens are required. The cuff is soft and prone to tearing when the glove is pulled on. Improvement of the cuff by way of toughening the material is essential. (Author)
