摘要

The objective of this program was to demonstrate the feasibility of fabricating aircraft-quality bimetallic gears by the coextrusion process. Several material combinations (couples) were considered. M50and 4330V modified were selected for the gear tooth cladding and core,respectively,on the basis of (1) acceptable material properties of each after having been subjected to a compatible heat treatment,and (2) demonstrated compatibility,residual compressive stress,and high-quality bond when coextruded in small,round-rod bars. Although some difficulty was encountered in the attempts to maintain the required geometric control,small spur gears (23-tooth, 18-diametrical-pitch) were successfully fabricated with a nominal cladding (M50) thickness of 0.015inch.
