Study of Animal Signals and Neural Processing,with Applications to Advanced Sonar Systems.

摘要

Wideband signal theory is discussed in relation to presently used sonar signals. The advantages of broadband pulses for classification of non-planar targets is discussed,and a theory is presented which provides a simple,straightforward method of target classification. The use of such pulses for detection of targets in background clutter is described. Signals derived using this theory are essentially identical to those recorded from echolocating porpoises,indicating that the porpoise's sonar system may make use of similar signal design parameters. Bat echolocation signals are also derived. Application of the theory to auditory signal processing is discussed. (Author)
