摘要

The research investigates a three-parameter model for a hazard function that adequately describes the infant mortality and useful life regions of the bathtub curve. The corresponding time-to-failure probability density function is derived and the maximum likelihood equations are developed for the three parameters. The resulting system of equations is transcendental. The Newton-Raphson Method,an iterative technique,is employed to solve this system of equations. Also,an algorithm for determining a starting solution set for the Newton-Raphson Method is discussed. Computer programs are provided for both the Newton-Raphson Method and the starting solution algorithm. (Modified author abstract)
