An investigation of the erosive behavior of 410stainless steel and 6Al-4V titanium was conducted. In the course of this investigation it was found that the velocity dependence of erosion is a function of the impingement angle and the behavior of this dependence varies with different materials. It was also found that the effect of increasing the specimen width is a function of both aerodynamic and material properties,as well as the size of the erodent particle. Grant's model for predicting ductile erosion was investigated for both 410stainless steel and 6Al-4V titanium. It was found that the model adequately predicts the velocity dependence on both materials above an impingement angle of approximately 15degrees. Modifications were made in Grant's equation to improve the prediction of the angles of maximum erosion and the shape of the erosion curve. (Author)
