This program was aimed at the determination of the effect of certain macro and microstructural variations on the mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn, and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-6Mo forgings. Smooth and notched tensile, smooth and notched high cycle fatigue, low cycle fatigue, and fracture toughness properties were established for each structure. The microstructures of all conditions as observed by optical microscopy are presented and described. Fracture patterns of the fracture toughness bars are characterized by scanning electron micrographs. A mechanical property rating system which may be used to compare the various conditions evaluated is described. A third task involved the effect of certain metallurgical flaws on the mechanical properties of the Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn alloys.
