SHAFT POSITION DIGITIZER AND CAMERA CONTROL UNIT NSRDC TYPE 638-1A

A control unit was developed to aid in photographing cavitation emitted by rotating propellers. The unit provides precise timing to strobe lights for visual observation and photographic recording at predetermined propeller angles. Conditions of shaft RPM, blade angle, blade pitch, time code, and run number are recorded on each film frame. Design principles and operating and maintenance procedures are presented in this report.
