Some Measurements of Mercury Vapor Pumping Pressures in Pairs of Isotopic Species.

Pressure differentials caused by Hg vapor flow through a dilute permanent gas have been studied experimentally in the pressure range 0.001-0.4 Torr for the isotope pairs (Helium 3, Helium 4) and (Hydrogen, Deuterium). The percentage pressure change is found to approach low pressure limiting values of 2.5 percent and 2.93 percent for Helium 3 and Helium 4 and 2.63 and 3.72 percent for Hydrogen and Deuterium. The experimental data are compared to Takaishi's theory. The agreement with the mass effect stated in the theory is very close. (Author)
