Physical Characteristics and Performance of Synthetic Wound Dressings.

Five series of composite synthetic wound dressings were fabricated from either films, sponges ands mats of collagen or from hydroxyethyl methacrylate gel and from silicone rubber. Water vapor transmission, surface texture, thickness and wound conformability were evaluated along with the in vivo performance on clean, dorsal full thickness wounds in rats. High water vapor transmissions and high surface textures were found in dressings performing well in vivo. (Author)
