The Zenith-angle distribution of stopping muons at sea level, and the response of a stopping muon cosmic-ray detector were investigated in this research report. In order to determine the angular response of a wide-angle stopping muon telescope, smaller detectors were placed in coincidence with it which provided a correlation of count rate with zenith-angle of particle arrival. Using numerical integration techniques, computer solutions were employed to predict the zenith-angle-selective count rates for various descriptions of the incident flux. A least-squares analysis yielded a cosine power expressed mathematically. Employing this flux expression in predictive computer programs provided an accurate model of the wide angle telescope response from which the telescope half-angle was determined. Considerations of overburden effects and data corrections are discussed.
