摘要

The authors have measured the room-temperature static lattice dielectric constant of PbTe using a cavity-perturbation technique. The result, epsilon = 800 + or - 220, implies a transverse optic phonon frequency omega = 23 + or - 4/3/cm in agreement with values extrapolated from low-temperature magnetoplasma measurements but in disagreement with the commonly-quoted neutron-diffraction result of Cochran et al., omega = 31.7 + or - 1.3/cm.
