This report is the fortieth in a series of progress reports to the Joint Services Technical Advisory Committee since the inception of the Joint Services Electronics Program at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in July 1955. The report, now being issued annually, summarizes research accomplished under the aegis of the Microwave Research Institute and reflects the impact of the Joint Services Electronics Program on the research activities of faculty and students of the Institute. The program covers a broad spectrum ranging from basic theoretical physics, mathematics, and engineering, to experimental investigations involving basic measurements, development of devices, and materials.
