This report describes an investigation to determine the feasibility of using Kevlar 29 in suppressive shielding applications. The background, physical properties, general and specific applicability for suppressive shields, and results of a pilot test were discussed and analyzed. Comparison of the physical properties indicated superior effectiveness, ease of assembly, and weight characteristics of Kevlar 29 over steel. The material cost of Kevlar 29 is much higher than steel at present; therefore, specific designs must be compared to determine which structure has the lowest total cost. Kevlar 29 has possible applications in the seven suppressive shielding categories, yet more research is necessary to define blast effects and Kevlar 29's reaction to them.
