Several polynuclear aromatic compounds were synthesized leading to the production of nickel complexes of sulfur-oxygen polynuclear aromatic structures. The near infrared spectral properties of the complexes were measured. The complexes were found to absorb between 1000-1600 nm.nPlastic powders were prepared by incorporation of selected near infrared absorbing compounds into appropriate plastic substrates and reducing the granulated plastic-absorber structures to a particle size below 300 microns. The fine particulate matter had absorption in the region 800-1500 nm.nFrankford Arsenal was provided with experimental quantities of appropriate absorbers, dyes and chemicals and the fine particulate matter for in-house research at the Arsenal.
