摘要

Sparganosis on Taiwan, in most cases, is considered to be due to infections with the spargana or pleurocercoid larva of Diphyllobothrium mansoni, a common intestinal tapeworm of dogs and cats. Humans can become infected with the larval worms by either accidentally ingesting the first intermediate host (copepods in fresh water) or the uncooked second intermediate host (frogs, snakes, birds or mammals). Animal poultices applied to the eye or skin is also a means of infection. The purpose of this report is to call attention to Taiwan physicians that the disease is not uncommon and should be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of unusual or transient subcutaneous swellings.
