摘要

To clarify the biochemical mechanism of chloramphenicol induced erythroid suppression, effect on ALA (delta-aminolevulinic acid) synthetase activity in erythroid cells was studied. Chloramphenicol mice had no effect on ALA synthetase activity. However, ALA synthetase activity in erythroblasts was decreased in some patients treated with thiamphenicol an analogue of chloramphenicol. It is speculated that thiamphenicol may have induced a proliferation of a clone of erythroblasts with low ALA synthetase activity.
