The distribution of current in a corrosion cell with circular geometry has been computed on the assumption that the electrolyte has a uniform composition, so that potential distribution is given by Laplace's equation. The current distribution is more uniform along the metal surface under bulk electrolyte than under thin layers of electrolyte. For thin layers, there is a geometry effect in which corrosion attack is intensified at the anode/cathode boundary. For a fixed anode radius, this local attack is promoted by decreasing the electrolyte thickness or linear polarization parameter or by increasing the cathode radius.
