Intrinsic Interference Assay for Hepatitis Virus.

Overall objectives to total project were: The further development of the intrinsic interference system as an assay for the growth of the hepatitis viruses (A and B) in tissue culture; The use of the above system to study the pathogenesis of hepatitis indicated by the sequential sites from which the virus can be isolated and by the kinetics of development of neutralizing antibody against these viruses; and The attenuation of these viruses by serial passage through tissue culture with the eventual goal of the development of an effective and safe live attenuated vaccine.
