Marine sediment bacteria were found to be capable of utilizing a mixture of 19 petroleum hydrocarbons referred to as mixed hydrocarbon substrate (MHS). Autoclaving and the addition of sediment inoculum were found to change the concentration of inorganic nutrients affected growth of sediment bacteria and their utilization of MHS. (Author)
