Comments on 1,489 Cases of Vascular Wounds (Lessons Learned in Indochina Theater of Operations) (Reflexion sur 1,489 cas de Plaies Vasculaires (Enseignement des Theatres d'Operations d'Indochine)).

摘要

The work is a compilation of 1,489 observations collected between 1 January 1953 and the end of hostilities, in the north and in the central part of Vietnam, in the course of the last year of operations, at the Le Flem Military Hospital in Saigon. The authors underscore the importance of vascular wounds in wartime surgery and give results which were obtained: The following therapies were administered: Systematic surgical action, in the form of ligature, followed by arteriectomy; Refraining from any operations but watching carefully and waiting; Surgical repair as an initial surgical step. Finally the authors tried to work out a policy which in the light of their experience, would make it possible to save as many lives and as many limbs as possible.
