摘要

Many individual glycoprotein constituents of plasma increase in concentration during diverse illnesses, including infection, myocardial infarction, neoplasia, and trauma. This chapter discusses the biogenesis of these substances and summarizes evidence indicating that the host's ability to synthesize acute-phase reactants may not be lost or even slowed in the presence of severe protein or protein-calorie malnutrition (PCM).
