Structural Testing and Associated Data Reduction for a Guided Projectile Control Housing.

The testing and data reduction were accomplished for a guided projectile control housing for the U. S. Army Artillery Command, Rock Island, Illinois. The tests were performed by using the CL's 2.4-million-pound testing machine. Forty-one channels of data were recorded on magnetic tape in analog form. The analog data were then digitized and computer programs written or modified to locate specific data on the digitized tapes, apply a baseline shift, apply a calibration factor, draw and label specified coordinate axes, and plot the data. The significant point about this project is that by using a graphics terminal, hard copier, and appropriate computer programs data, plots of 500 points can be obtained from digitized tapes readily and for a cost of six dollars or less per plot.
