Personal Protection against Biting Flies:The Relative Effectiveness of Overjackets Treated with Various Insect Repellents.

Wide-mesh overjackets treated with six different insect-repellent formulations were tested against a local biting-fly population. The overjacket treatments included N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (deet), two mixtures containing deet and vanillin, two morpholine derivatives and an oxazolidine derivative. The overjackets treated with deet and deet-vanillin mixtures provided the most protection against biting flies. In protecting the facial area, these overjackets were as effective as applying deet liquid directly to the skin. (Author)
