Yields of K-Vacancy-Bearing Metastable States Following Foil Excitation.

Absolute yields of K-X -rays from the decay of heliumlike (1s2p)3P2, and lithiumlike (1s2s2p)4P5/2 metastable states produced by the passage of 30-50 MeV beams of Si, S and C1 through thin foils of C, A1, Ti and Ni were measured. The X-ray yields saturate for sufficiently thick foils at values which depend strongly on the target atomic number. The data is discussed in terms of a model which treats the inner and outer shell processes separately. (Author)
