The Hysteretic Plastic Work as a Failure Criterion in a Coffin-Manson Type Relation.

Many aluminum alloys show a failure of the Coffin-Manson relation. Further, when substantial cyclic softening or cyclic hardening occurs, the plastic strain would not appear to be an adequate failure criterion. The hysteretic plastic work is suggested as a more suitable criterion. This was tested for 2024-T4 with very promising results. (Author)
