Fevers of Unknown Origin.

Fevers of unexplained origin are usually caused by common diseases with unusual presentations. Infections and Neoplasms are the most common etiologies. Examination of tissue obtained either by Biopsy or exploratory laparotomy is the best means of establishing a diagnosis. Newer diagnostic techniques must still be evaluated. Patients with no explanation for their fever after complete hospital evaluation tend to do well. Therapeutic trials are indicated only in specific instances. (Author)
