Localization of Viable Rickettsiae in the Blood of Guinea Pigs Infected with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

Blood from guinea pigs infected with Rocky Mountain spotted fever was separated into its components. Early in infection rickettsiae were found predominantly in plasma, while late in infection they were found in white blood cells. This fact may be important in the early diagnosis of the disease.
