摘要

The magnitude of the adsorption volume of clays with respect to benzene was measured. For the clays dried at 18.5 degrees and 52% air humidity, measurement was made by the dynamic method. For the clays dried at 105 degrees, the exsiccator method was used. The amount of water removed from the clays dried at 18.5 degrees, heated to 105 degrees, and calcined from 105 to 600 degrees C was determined. It is graphically shown that the ratio of the adsorption volume of the clay, calculated with respect to water removed by calcining to the adsorption volume with respect to benzene has a value less than 1 in an overwhelming majority of the cases. Isotherms of the adsorption of water vapor and benzene are given. A relationship of the shape of the isotherm with the face of crystals of the clay mineral is demonstrated. It is also shown that the volume of the adsorbed benzene increases during treatment of the clay with acid. The phenomenon of separation of the plane crystal bundles of the clay minerals by molecules of the adsorbate is due to the presence of a D segment, characteristic for the swelling adsorbents, on the isotherms.
