An Infrared Sensing Technique for Real-Time Machine Process Control.

A process control technique is described wherein a direct assessment of the camera film being processed is made using an infrared densitometer to monitor the density of a calibrated exposure on the developing film. Using a device which embodies this technique, it was demonstrated that substantial variations in developer temperature, concentration, and exhaustion could be tolerated; standard-equivalent sensitometry was obtained in the presence of the developer variations described by an appropriate adjustment of development time, which was indicated by the device read-out.
