摘要

This report compares the effects of the captivity experiences of 138 Navy and 10 Marine Corps officers -- aviators in North Vietnam, with that of the 77 Army and 16 Marine Corps officers and enlisted men held captive for some time in South Vietnam. There were 17 diagnoses which occurred significantly more frequently among the RPWs held in South Vietnam (particularly those related to nutritional deficiencies and malaria). There were nine diagnoses which occurred more frequently in the North Vietnam Group (particularly peripheral nerve and orthopedic injuries). Thirty-three diagnoses (with at least a five percent rate of incidence) did not differ significantly between the groups. (Author)
