A Method of Evaluating Ovipositional Attractants of 'Aedes aegypti' (Diptera: Culicidae), with Preliminary Results.

Studies were performed to compare attractance of bacteria vs immature stage of Aedes aegypti to gravid females of this species. Methods of performing these studies were developed and are described in this report. Study results indicate that presence of an ovipositional attractant result in proportionately more eggs being deposited close to the water surface. It seemed that water with bacterial growth or metabolites was more attractive to gravid females than was water containing immature states of Ae. aegypti. (Author)
