Experiments were conducted on a small waterplane area, twin-hull (SWATH) model designated as SWATH 6A to determine the hydrodynamic coefficients associated with the following fin-body combinations: bare hull with forward fin, bare hull with aft fin, and bare hull with forward and aft fins. Three types of experiments were conducted at several speeds: calm-water towing for various fixed drafts and trim angles, forced oscillation in both the pitch and heave modes, and towing in regular head waves. The objective of the investigation was to verify the computational methods used for predicting the motions of a SWATH ship in waves. In general agreement between measured and computed hydrodynamic coefficients confirmed the validity of the computational method used. The study also provided valuable insight for improving both the methods of computing the hydrodynamic coefficients and the method of measuring the forces and moments of SWATH models.
