摘要

The Particle Optical Properties Measurements (POPM) Program is designed to assess the reliability of computing the infrared emissivity of hot particles from refractive index values measured on bulk samples. An experimental apparatus to observe the thermal radiation from a single particle electrostatically levitated and heated by 1.06micrometer Nd:YAG laser radiation has been constructed and has demonstrated the capability of simultaneously levitating and irradiating single micron sized particles.
