The AN/URC-85 radio sets are UHF transceivers used as an integral part of Link 4 (primarily used by the automatic Carrier Landing System) and Link 11 NTDS (Navy Tactical Data System) to furnish data communications from ship-to-air and ship-to-ship. The design of the AN/URC-85 radio set complements the HF radio sets in tactical data system installations and provides the UHF RF functions to meet the requirements for both Link 4 and Link 11 subsystems. the sets are automatically tuned and are intended for use on a continuous duty cycle. They can be used in either simplex or duplex operation in the voice or data modes.
