摘要

The proposed demonstration site is located on Roaring River at Roaring River, N. C., immediately above State Highway 268. It is located just above the mouth of Roaring River at the edge of the Yadkin River flood plain, and about 20 miles from the W. Kerr Scott Dam. Bank failures were first noticed by District personnel in December 1971. The situation at that time may well have been result of a severe flood in the upper Yadkin basin that occurred in August 1970 - the first to test the reservoir project after its completion in August 1962. It is proposed that for testing and demonstration purposes that the proposed site be divided into four reaches and that four different design concepts be considered utilizing three treatments procedures. The treatment procedures proposed are Gabions, riprap protection and a fabric mulch vegetation treatment such as Hold-Gro or its equal. The use of rock treatment procedures were selected over other procedures (articulated mats, Gobi blocks, Fabri Form, concrete mat, etc.) because of the abundance of rock in the Upper Yadkin River area. Quarry run rock will be used but in riprapped areas a minimum top layer size will be specified. Pertinent design features for each reach are discussed.
