Recoloring Formulations for Special Camouflage Applications.

This report describes research on two series of pigment formulations that closely duplicate the U.S. Army 4-color patterned clothing intended for verdant terrains. One of the series is durable; the other is removable. Composition, reflectance data and photographs illustrate the end results. Use of monotone olive green load-carrying equipment with camouflage patterned clothing is obviously incompatible with the objectives of personal camouflage. Economic factors preclude patterning the fabrics and webbing prior to fabrication of pouches, belts and other items of equipment. The alternative is to provide troops with the means for recoloring the equipment themselves to provide self-consistent camouflage according to the characteristics of specific terrains. (Author)
