Measurements of temperatures and airflows have been made in a Sea King helicopter to determine the parameters influencing the thermal environment. From these measurements a heat flow model is developed. The effectiveness of minor modifications to partially alleviate the hot conditions is discussed, and four proposals are made. However, it is confirmed that the only way to bring the cabin thermal environment to a completely acceptable level is by the use of refrigerated air supplies. One specific refrigeration proposal, that of a Normalair-Garrett Commando cooling unit, is assessed and found to provide a marginally acceptable crew environment. (Author)
