摘要

Steady two-dimensional stratified shear flows of a compressible fluid over a mountain is studied with the long-wave assumption (hydrostatic balance). For constant entropy profile far upstream, we obtained a close form solution. For general stratification and shear, the speed of certain points in the flow may vanish. We treated these points as the birth-bed of flow fields with closed streamlines (recirculating region). Constants of motion along a streamline are used to construct the outer boundary of these regions. Numerical solutions with data upstream to the Rocky Mountains were constructed with the recirculating region in the flow field. (Author)
