The Formation and Stability of Longitudinal Roll Vortices in Shear Flows.

摘要

Longitudinal roll vortices occur frequently in shear flows. Although they are most commonly driven by body forces (either centrifugal or buoyant), they are also observed during transition in homogeneous boundary layers. Under the above grant, various investigations have been made of their formation and, for the case of thermally driven vortices, their own instability. This report summarizes the results obtained.
