A Guide to NED: A New On-Line Computer Editor.

This report provides a step-by-step guide for using the New Editor (NED), a computer program developed at Rand to create and modify text from a cathode ray tube (CRT) terminal. Written in systems programming language C, NED is accessed using modified Ann Arbor Model K4080 D terminals, which are supported by the UNIX timesharing operating system. This report shows the user how to use NED to take advantage of the CRT's screen, keyboard, and cursor and demonstrates the unique features of NED, using easy-to follow exercises. The techniques of using NED are described in detail from logging on to the computer through terminating the session. Also included is an example of editing text filled with typical errors.
